California's Teacher Shortage: Fact Or Fiction?

I've been reading that there is a large teacher shortage on the horizon in California. I've also been reading that the shortage is only a flight of fancy.

Still others say that whether or not there is a shortage of teachers depends on
the locality one finds oneself.

Jack O'Connell, California's elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction, says
raising teacher pay would do much to address the impending teacher shortage.

On the other hand, this op-ed says that there are
other incentives besides salaries that can attract good teachers to the classroom.
