One of Imperial County's (California) own fell in Iraq this week:
The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sgt. Alfredo B. Silva, 35, of Calexico, Calif., died in Baghdad, Iraq, on Sept. 15, 2005, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during patrol operations. Silva was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division, Modesto, Calif.
The city of Calexico is very near to our hometown. Our thoughts and prayers will be with his family.
