Teacher Attempts Suicide In Front Of Class

Earlier this month, Georgianne Harrell cut her wrists in front of her 3rd grade class in Sylvester, Arizona. A few days later, the 24-year-old teacher was arrested Tuesday on a charge of child molestation:
Police began investigating Harrell after she cut her wrist -- apparently with a piece of broken glass -- in front of her third-grade class at Holley Elementary School on May 4. Sylvester Police Chief Tony Strenth said the cut drew blood but wasn't deep and didn't require stitches.

As police investigated the incident, a boy in her class told authorities about two alleged molestation incidents, Strenth said. He would not elaborate on the boy's accusations, but Harrell was charged with two counts of aggravated child molestation.

"It's just an unfortunate situation. Hopefully we're going to get through it," said Superintendent Gary Russell, who said the Worth County School District has been providing counseling to students.

Harrell resigned from her position last week. A second-year teacher who had no previous history of problems on the job, Harrell was still in jail as of Wednesday afternoon.
